Domain Names

A Domain Name is a unique name that identifies a location on the Internet net, just like a telephone number locates your phone. Anyone can register a domain name with any number of domain registrars (Dotster.com, Godaddy.com, RegisterFly.com, etc.). You should expect to pay $10-$15 per year for a domain name. Registering a domain name only assigns that name to you. It does not give you a web site, email or anything else. All of those additional features are called "hosted services".  What that means is you have to pay someone to host your domain name on their Internet server. Prices for these service vary widely depending on what you want to do or have hosted. Probably the simplest thing to do is to have your domain name hosted by the company you register with. Prices typically start around $3.95 per month for hosting services.

A great tool to help you come up with a domain name is called a "name spinner". All you have to do is type in some key words and it shows you what domain names available. Here are some sites with name spinners. I do not suggest that your register with these site, but only use them to find a domain name you like.
